A one day workshop, was led by well known local watercolour artist, Phil Biggs.  Phil demonstrated how he approached water colour painting and the participants then all found a particular viewpoint in the cemetery and spent the day painting with individual advice given by Phil.  For several artists it was their first visit to the Chapels, but they all agreed that it was a beautiful area that deserved recognition and refurbishment.  It was ideal for painters.  Several wish to return for the PAINT OUT DAY ON 10th AUGUST.

Paintings will be displayed on one of our Cemetery Chapels Open Days on 12th AUGUST

The Trustees were delighted that the Mirinesse Singers had agreed to give a Midsummer Concert on Wednesday, 21st June. This Ladies’ Chamber Choir, formed about 18 months ago, is rapidly gaining an excellent reputation for their wide ranging repertoire, from medieval to contemporary, frequently featuring music by female composers.  Singing to a capacity audience on a warm summer’s evening showed what a very good  venue the chapels can be for small scale concerts.  Everyone agreed that the acoustics were brilliant and the programme presented was very enjoyable, reflecting the heritage aspects of the surroundings

A very successful day was spent carrying out further survey work at Holbeach Cemetery on 14th May.  Our group of research enthusiasts worked under the direction of Neil Parker, senior archaeologist and Time-Team collaborator.  The group continues to do amazing work plotting where graves are and then carrying out biographical research on the people buried in the cemetery.

Enquiries are coming in regularly from both local people and from  people as far away as Scotland, who want to find ancestors’ graves and learn more about their families’ histories.

Anyone wishing to be helped with research into family history should contact LINDEN SECKER:

This is an opportunity for all artists to come to the Cemetery and Chapels and capture some aspect of this beautiful area with paint. Spend a day with like minded people finding a quiet nook and create something special.  Painting is relaxing, enjoyable and a chance to  thoughtfully embody something precious and dignified.

An exhibition will be held of these paintings, at the Chapels on SATURDAY 12th AUGUST. The exhibition will also include some paintings from the Painting Workshop being held in July.

Light refreshments will be available throughout the day.
