The Holbeach Cemetery Chapels Trust, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, hosted a cemetery trail on Sunday 26th February 2017. Linden Secker, a member of the Holbeach Cemetery Research Group, and Jenny Worth, one of the Trustees, conducted a leisurely stroll around the cemetery grounds. The themed walk used biographical information that had been researched by the group. Graves were visited of people who had died in mysterious, violent or tragic circumstances. Particularly poignant were the stories of children who had died and those people who had taken their own lives. The information offered a fascinating insight into the lives of Victorian people. Following the walk, refreshments were served in the chapels and the 30 people who attended were able to see some displays of recently researched information, as well as finding out more about the long term aims of the Holbeach Cemetery Chapels Trustees and Committee.
What was said: It will inspire us to keep learning more ………..help me to think about organising our own tour. I have learnt how much more there is to a graveyard than just the gravestones . So much excellent research work is going on – this afternoon’s trail was a triumph.
Further trails will be offered during 2017.
